Marymount University's Barry Art Gallery will display the Italian Portfolio: Student Interior Design Exhibition from September 6 through October 31, 2008.
Over the summer, a group of 20 Marymount undergraduate and graduate Interior Design students spent three weeks in Italy, studying architecture and use of space. They visited Tuscania, Rome, Siena, Pompeii, Florence, and Venice with sketchbooks in hand. Specific assignments included sketches of the environment; scenes with people; and renderings that show color in black and white, achieved through different variations of shadowing. Upon their return, the undergraduate students enhanced rough sketches by adding color, painting original watercolors, and creating posters.
The Barry Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact Judy Bass, the Gallery curator at (703) 284-1561 or judy.bass@marymount.edu
